I am really thankful to God that I can go to Project Khmer Hope to experience their work. God really blessed me with the chance to go there twice. Once in March which is the opening month for the school year, and the second time in July, where we placed out the hospitality class students to start their training or job in hotels. I also have the opportunity to visit the three major places where our students work, Phnom Penh, Siem Reap and Sihanoukville. This let me experience sort of a complete cycle of the work for hospitality class.

The journey is exciting yet I was a bit nervous since I went there alone. I have never been to Cambodia before and this is my first time volunteering to go to a foreign country and experience God’s work.

Before setting off, I was being asked by some friends what I plan to do there. Isn’t it better if I just make offerings or donations? Sometimes, it makes me wonder too as I am not hospitality trained and not a teacher as well. But this experience taught me what it really meant to be a volunteer and to go to a mission trip. I have learned that when going on short term mission, it is an opportunity for me to observe the work and to give support to everyone there at my best. Besides that, it is important to talk and befriend the students, sharing the word and works of God, and encouraging them. These are like little seeds planting into their lives. I might not know how these seed will turn out to be, but the important thing is that I have done what God wants me to do and He will take care of the rest.

I also came to understand the meaning of ‘it is better to give than to receive’. I received more than I could ever imagine in the process of giving. I had received a deeper spiritual growth.

This is just the beginning. As I walked the first step, I am sure He will lead me on my second step, and the rest of my journey.

Here, I would also like to thank Ds Bessie, Ms Yvonne, Susan, Terry, Ket, Ming Ghee and to everyone I have met in PKH, who made my trip memorable.

I hope you will enjoy viewing the pictures.
